Albert Walder Gilchrist

1858-1926
Born South Carolina.
Graduated from U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Worked as civil engineer, real estate agent and citrus grower in Punta Gorda.
1893-1905 member of the state house of representatives and was speaker of the house in 1905.
Governor of Florida 1909-1913.
Gilchrist County was named for him when the county was created in 1925.
